Ghana’s Takoradi Power Plant

HPI built a 132 MW power plant in Ghana on a turnkey EPC basis. The owner is the Volta River Authority and the project was made possible through a contractual collaboration between HPI and Magellan Orenda Aerospace, whose OGT-series of gas turbine-generators produce the power in a combined cycle configuration.

The OGT25000 class engine provides an environmentally friendly way to create electricity from what was formally used as waste. The engine converts waste gas into electricity which would normally be disposed of by a flaring process, which many governments have recently condemned.

HPI provided an Allen-Bradley ControlLogix™ system with every generator skid. The systems were programmed and tested by HPI staff. In addition to providing the digital governor and generator controls, the HPI engineers also designed the fuel regulator, lube oil, and electrical systems in order to ensure tight integration among these functions for reliability and safety.
